Darker is better, like any projector. With the lamps off it's at its best, and with a small reading light on you'll still see it, just softer. It's made for night-time reading, which is when your room is dark anyway.

Swap the slide and you're somewhere else. It takes a few seconds, with no app, no tools and nothing to set up.
